A Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in the legal department of a firm, providing support to lawyers and ensuring the smooth operation of legal activities within the firm. Responsibilities

  • Document Management: Assist in the preparation, review, and management of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and corporate resolutions. Organize and maintain a comprehensive filing system for all corporate legal documents.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research on various topics, including case law, regulations, and statutes. Summarize findings and present them to the legal team for consideration.
  • Compliance: Ensure the corporation complies with all relevant laws and regulations. Assist in the monitoring and updating of compliance policies and procedures.
  • Client Interaction: Serve as a point of contact for internal and external clients. Schedule and coordinate meetings, conference calls, and appointments for corporate lawyers.
  • Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the legal department, including answering phones, managing correspondence, and maintaining calendars.
  • Transaction Support: Assist in the preparation and execution of corporate transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, and financings. Coordinate the collection and organization of due diligence materials.
  • Records Maintenance: Maintain corporate records, including minutes of meetings, bylaws, and other governance documents. Ensure all records are up-to-date and accessible.

Qualifications

  • Degree in related field of study, preferred.
  • Bilingual: English
  • 2+ years previous experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a corporate environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with corporate law and legal procedures is essential. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and legal research databases (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis). Experience with document management systems is beneficial.
  • Proven experience in a customer service or client-facing role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate with legal professionals, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all work. Ability to identify and correct errors in documents and data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with legal team members and other departments. Professional demeanor and customer service orientation.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive legal information.
