Overview

The Removal Defense paralegal plays a crucial role in providing legal support and assistance to individuals seeking immigration relief while in removal proceedings, such as but not limiting to seeking asylum in the United States. Working under the supervision of experienced removal defense experts, the paralegal is responsible for managing asylum cases, ensuring compliance with immigration laws, and supporting clients throughout the removal proceedings process. Duties encompass learning how to create and file various motions, applications, and other documentation. Their responsibilities are essential for ensuring that cases are handled effectively and in compliance with the law.

 


**Onsite Job in Virreyes, Lomas de Chapultepec, CDMX ** Monday to Friday  8 AM to 5 PM 

Responsibilities

  • Support in case/client interviews: whether it be setting up the interview, performing the interview, or revising the notes afterwards - each step is crucial to ensuring that we are accurately setting up the clients story.
  • Administrative tasks: organizing case files, ensuring all documents and forms are up to date, including managing case calendars, deadlines, and scheduling interviews.
  • Client communication: maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates on their cases, including explaining the processes and requirements to the client in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Translation and interpretation: providing language assistance, whether verbal to writing (vice versa).
  • Continuing Education: stays informed about changes in immigration laws, regulations, and procedures through ongoing education and training.
  • Confidentiality: maintain strict confidentiality of client information.
  • Internal:
    - Constant communication with team members inside the Removal Defense Department
  • External:
    - Constant outside communication with clients.
    - Occasional outside communication with USCIS (government entity), OPLA, Immigration Court, as well as any of the clients prior attorneys.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field of study.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish.
  • 2+ years of professional working experience.
  • Knowledge of immigration law, specifically Asylum (preferred)
  • Proficiency in legal research, case management software, Microsoft office, and Google Office (sheets, etc).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cultural sensitivity and empathy when working with clients.
