Job Summary:
The Criminal Paralegal will play a vital role in supporting the criminal department by assisting attorneys, managing case files, conducting legal research, and facilitating communication with district attorneys, prosecutors, courts, and clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in crimimmigration and be highly detail-oriented, organized, and proficient in managing deadlines and client interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys with case preparation, legal research, drafting documents, and submitting cases to courts and other relevant entities.
Conduct client intake, take declarations, and ensure thorough collection of case information.
Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates, answering questions, and scheduling meetings as necessary.
Manage attorney calendars by scheduling client meetings, hearings, and other key appointments.
Liaise with district attorneys, prosecutors, court staff, and other legal professionals to facilitate case progress.
Research criminal law and its intersection with immigration law to determine potential consequences for clients’ immigration cases.
Maintain organized and accurate case files, ensuring compliance with deadlines and legal procedures.
Prepare and submit filings, motions, and other legal documents with a high degree of accuracy.
Stay updated on legal developments in criminal and immigration law and provide relevant insights to attorneys.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification required.
Minimum 2 years of experience in criminal law; criminal experience strongly preferred.
Skills and Attributes:
Strong research and analytical abilities, especially regarding criminal and immigration law.
Exceptional attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
Effective verbal and written communication for working with clients, attorneys, and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in case management software, legal research tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with court e-filing systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual (English and Spanish preferred).
Experience in high-volume, client-focused legal environments.
Work Environment:
This position will require working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with regular communication with attorneys, supervisors, and clients. The paralegal will need to be proactive in managing their workload and meeting deadlines. The ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment is crucial.

Compensation is between $60,000 and $65,000/year. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
